Work on corrosion issues at KSC began in the 1960s with the evaluation of long term protective coatings for the atmospheric protection of carbon steel. NASA established the KSC Beachside Atmospheric Exposure Test Site at that time. The site has provided over 40 years of information on the long-term performance of many materials.
Much of this work has been presented at conferences and published in technical journals, making KSC a major source of worldwide corrosion expertise. Most publications are available and can be downloaded from this website. The KSC Beachside Atmospheric Exposure Test Site is unique within the government, making it a valuable resource that is available to customers outside NASA.
