The Beachside Corrosion Laboratory is an on-site facility for conducting real time corrosion experiments. This facility houses instrumentation for the remote monitoring of weather conditions at the site. The laboratory provides a humidity and temperature controlled environment for instrumentation such as personal computers, data loggers, and electronic balances. It also provides temperature-controlled laboratory space for on-site corrosion experiments.
Instrumentation is available in the laboratory to conduct electrochemical measurements using DC techniques as well as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. These measurements can be conducted on specimens exposed on-site (or in-situ) to gain valuable information on the instantaneous behavior of the corroding system. The laboratory has a fully equipped workshop to conduct on-site assembly. The workshop includes mechanical and electrical/electronic work areas to build, repair or modify items for corrosion experiments.
